Message for Wonder

It took us about 4 months to read Wonder. We would read it during read aloud. Mrs. Clayton would read it or we would listen to it on the computer. Whenever we listened to the computer, we would be on our computer "chatting" on Today's Meet. I really enjoyed Wonder because we can relate to problems that August (Main Character) has. August has a lot of bullying problems and he has a problem worse than bullying, he has a deformed face. Wonder is about his first year of school.

I think that the message of the story is don't judge someone by how they look. At the beginning of the story, August was being picked on by other 6th graders because of how his face was deformed. Some students thought that he was stupid because this is his first year of being in a school. Before school started, Mr. Tushman got 3 students to tour August around the school. One of them started telling August, "This is an eraser, this is a pencil...". Students act like he is like sticky cheese, like in Diary Of A Wimpy Kid. Instead of the "cheese touch", it was called the plague. August was like the cheese, so all his friends would have the plague. They just made this up because he looked like he wasn't right for this school.

That is why I think that the message of Wonder don't judge someone by how they look. Next time you go into a library, check out Wonder By R.J. Palacio. I am sure you will enjoy it!
