Adventure Fiction Writing

Jackson was sitting on the edge of his bed. He opens his window, the breeze comes in and blows on his face. “Ahhhhh” Jackson sighs as he relaxes on his bed. Every morning Jackson does this to cool himself down from the heat in their room. Jackson hears his parents talking in the living room. Like a spy, he peeks in the living room and he sees his parents holding a piece of paper and a pen. Jackson asked what was the list for. His parents said that it was a Christmas gift list because they were planning on going Christmas shopping that morning. They were buying gifts for their relatives. Jackson’s parents told Jackson to take care of his brother Jase and watch the soup that was cooking on the stove. It was Jackson’s first time being alone with his brother. He feels scared because he is only thinking of the bad things that will happen like fires and kidnappers. Not the good things like getting to play videogames all day.

Jackson enters Jase’s room and decides to jump on him to wake him up. Jase wakes up. They both left the bedroom to eat breakfast. While eating, the two boys came up with a plan to fill up the day. Jase said he would squeeze lemons to make invisible ink. He painted the ink on a piece of paper with a paint brush and dried it on the kitchen window security bars. Since it was windy, the paper fell off the bars. It landed beside the stove the soup was cooking on. The wind became stronger and stronger. Part of the paper caught on fire and soon the whole piece of paper was burning. Since the burning paper was touching a wooden drawer, the drawer caught on fire. The two boys didn’t realize there was fire until Jase smelt something burning. “A FIRE!” screamed Jase. Jackson smelt something burning and then saw the fire in the kitchen.

They dashed across the living room to get to the nearest exit. It was the backdoor, the area around it was all dusty because nobody cleans it and it was rarely used. It was like an emergency door on a bus or a plane. Jackson pushed the heavy door and they exited their house.

The fire slowly became bigger and bigger. They knock next door, Miss Donald’s house. The two kids said that part of their kitchen caught on fire. Miss Donald didn’t believe it at first, but when she peeked out the window she saw a little fire coming out of the kitchen.

Their parents arrived from their Christmas shopping. Jackson peeked out a window from Miss Donald’s house. He sees that his parents arrived from Christmas shopping. Their parents ask them “Why were you guys at Miss Donald’s house?” Jackson shared the short story and added that the fire extinguisher was too heavy to carry and to hold while putting put out the fire. Dad went inside the house holding a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. While Dad put out the fire, Mom called Dad’s good friend Pablo to repair the kitchen. Jackson said, “What a day!”

School Uniforms

School Uniforms
By Johan Chua

I think school uniforms can be good and bad in many different ways. School uniform tops can be really hard to clean and since we already have lots of clothes, why do we need to buy more? On the other hand, school uniforms can be good because chaperones can spot us easily when we are on field trips.

One reason I think school uniforms are bad is because the tops are white in color and can be really hard to clean. One day I was doing my homework and I heard my mom asking my brother, “What did you eat today because there is a stain on your shirt?” “Ice-cream!” my brother replied. Then my mom had to scrub my brother’s shirt. My mother was really frustrated because the uniform was white and the stain was hard to clean off . This is similar to when I was in kindergarden, I had spaghetti for lunch and the sauce spilled all over my shirt.

In addition, school uniforms can be a waste of money because we already have lots of clothes so why can’t we wear them to school? I remembered once I was in Hongkong, me and my mom were going to buy uniform jackets. I asked my mom, “Why do we need uniform jackets since we already have a lot of clothes?” She answered, “You should wear the uniform jacket as it is part of the school uniform.”  I felt that it was such a waste of money. This connects with when your parents are buying clothes for you all the time.

But on the other hand, having a school uniform can be good because when we go on field trips, the chaperones can spot us easily as our clothes are all the same. I remembered once I went on a field trip to the supermarket with my class. I asked my chaperone, “How can you always see us so well?” Our chaperone replied, “Because you are all wearing the same uniform.” This makes me realize that if you are wearing free dress,  you can blend in with the crowd more easily and it would be harder for the teacher or chaperone to keep track of us.

I used to think that school uniforms are good but now I realize that school uniforms are bad. Wearing free dress to school would be better as your clothes will not be in the closet or wardrobe most of the time.

Soccer

Soccer
By:Johan

The time on the cafeteria digital clock was 12:09. 5...4...3...2...1. It”s 12:10. Signs that said ‘GO QUIETLY’ were raised up by a couple of  I.A.s from Mr.Hunter’s class, Mr.Woodfield’s class and Mr.Scott's class. Those classes left. When it was our class’s turn we quickly cleaned up the table and sat down.  I was in a rush to finish my meal. We quickly walked out of the cafeteria through the hallways to get to recess. We take one way and the Grade 3s take another way. When I was walking out of the cafeteria, I saw Rohan. I decided to catch up with him, and I did.
I asked him, “What are you going to play at recess because I don’t have anything to do or play?”
He answered, “Soccer, do you want to play?”
I replied, “...Yes”
“Come with me.” said Rohan
I thought in my mind when we exited the cafeteria... “Should I play something else? Won’t the soccer ball hit my face? What if I get tackled? It’s ok, I’ll just stay away from the soccer ball. I should be...defender.”

We rushed to the soccer field. There are 2 fields. One small one and a big one and they are connected. We played on the small one. It was 12 vs 12 game. There was some tackles, but nobody got badly injured. It was the middle of recess and the soccer game. So far my team was winning 2-0.Ryan was our goalie, Rohan and I were defenders. We three liked to talk together because there were not many people in our side of the field and whenever the ball come our way the mid-fielders kicked it the other way.

Ryan had trouble kicking or throwing the ball most of the time but he managed to stop a lot of ball from going into his teams goal. Once he couldn’t kick the ball because he was surrounded by people from the other team so he ran through Rohan and another guy. Rohan fell on his behind. Ryan dropped the ball and kicked it really hard so that the ball went flying through the air like a jet plane. It went so far that it almost scored a goal.
I asked him, “Why did you bashed through Rohan?”
“Because if I tackle...wait the ball is coming,” he replied.
“What should I do? MOVE ASIDE?”  I thought.
Ryan quickly caught the ball with his hands and quickly threw it before anybody could surround him. I leaned against the goal post.
“Why did you bash Rohan...” I asked him
“Because if I tackle then I can get in trouble. But if I, GOAL!!! 3-0... bash into someone it causes less trouble.” Ryan told me
We had 10 minutes left before recess ends. There were a couple of tackles and out balls. Most of the time when there is an out ball (a ball that goes out of the field) mid-fields come and tackle it out of the field!!! Around 3 minutes before the I.As blew the whistle my team scored a goal. 4-0.

Suddenly an I.A blew the whistle. We all left the soccer field. “Hhhhh, if only  we had a longer recess.” We went to the classroom sweaty. It was time for math... “What should we do next recess?”
